Tips for working from home

March 2020

Optimal position while sitting

Both in the Netherlands and the rest of the world, people now work a lote more from home. It is therefore very important to organize a healthy workplace at home. Comfort should be integrated. It is also important to place the computer or laptop screen at a good height and distance. A good adjustment and sitting posture of the chair is essential as well. Most desks have a height of approximately 74 cm. However, some desks differ from this European standard as they can be adjusted. It is important for the seat height that the pelvis is higher than the knees, so that the armrests of the office chair are at elbow height. It is a common mistake to place the screen of the computer or laptop too high. The screen is perfectly placed when your eyes are on the same level as the upper frame of the screen. In addition, the screen is best placed one arm length from the body. Keep the mouse close to the body and place the keyboard 15 cm from the edge of the desk. To make it visual, a picture is added below.

Accessories

In addition to the correct posture and distance, it is also important to make working from home as easy as possible. This way, with the right accessories, you have the perfect opportunity to achieve higher productivity, even from home.

At Elka Pieterman, you can easily order the accessories you need such as keyboards, mice, headsets and many other office supplies. The keyboards, mice and headsets are available in many different types, such as wireless or with a cable connection.

Wireless

In addition, some models have the option to pair the products via Bluetooth. With this type of connection, the keyboard, mouse or headset will easily be connected to the computer or laptop without tangling your cables. There also is another way to connect devices. Some specific devices do have the possibility to make a connection via 2.4 GHz or even 5 GHz. GHz is the abbreviation of Giga Hertz and describes the frequency of a given signal. The Wi-Fi router transmits a Wi-Fi signal at a certain frequency. When smart devices are connected to the router, they already work. Nowadays there are 2 types of this so called GHz connection. These signals both have a different wavelenght. Most devices work with a 2.4 GHz signal and it can therefore happen that this signal is overloaded. That is why many routers now also have the option to transmit a more stable 5 GHz signal. This signal has a shorter range, but in many cases it is faster.

But what exactly is Bluetooth? Bluetooth is a method of wirelessly exchanging data between two or more devices. In this case, one device is the transmitter while the other is the receiver. The main conditions for pairing devices via Bluetooth are that should not be too great. The maximum distance is usually 10 meters, although there are also devices with a longer distance coverage.

But what is the difference between Bluetooth and connecting via a 2.4 GHz connection? Both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) offer wireless commnication and use radio signals for this. The main difference between Bluetooth and Wi-Fi is the purpose for which they are designed. Bluetooth is mainly used to connect short-range devices. Wi-Fi offers fast wireless internet access. Without worrying about speed, Bluetooth is a great solution, because it requires little bandwith. Wi-Fi offers more bandwith because speed is an important factor for a good internet connection.
